Superintendent's Page

Dear Bradley Beach Community,

I am honored to be serving as your Interim Superintendent/Principal.  Since joining the Bradley Beach Elementary School community on June 1, 2022, I have been impressed with the enthusiastic school spirit.  The students, who are at the heart of all we do, are amazing!  The faculty and staff are energetic and dedicated.

As you know, the Bradley Beach Board of Education is actively searching for a permanent Superintendent/Principal.  During this period of transition, I will do all I can to ensure a smooth transition.  My prior experience includes serving as the Superintendent of Schools in Scotch Plains-Fanwood for thirteen years.  My experience as a school principal includes five years with the Old Bridge Township Public Schools and seven years with the Parsippany-Troy Hills Public Schools.  As a teacher, I was primarily a high school social studies and English teacher, but I have worked with students K-12.

Joining your community in June has given me the opportunity to participate in many of the wonderful end of year activities, some of which are happening for the first time since the Covid pandemic began.  From concert and drama presentations to Field Day and the Eighth Grade Trip, there is much to celebrate!

Please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.  Working together, we will continue to move forward as the Bradley Beach Elementary School Community of Learners!

Best wishes,

Margaret W. Hayes, Ed.D

Interim Superintendent/Principal

Margaret W. Hayes, Ed.D

Superintendente / Directora Interina

March 3, 2022

Dear Bradley Beach Community,

I hope this letter finds you well and I would like to thank you for your continued support throughout this school year.  I am writing to our community today to explain my recommendation of moving to an optional masking policy for the date presented by Governor Murphy of March 7th.  Over the course of the past month, I have conferred with the Department of Education, the Department of Health, the County Superintendent, the Board of Education, districts throughout Monmouth County, and surveyed the staff and families, and it is evident that it is the correct time to move to an optional masking policy effective Monday, March 7th.

There are a number of factors that have made this decision clear over the past two week.  First, we have not had a recorded student case in the past two weeks, which is fantastic news.  Secondly, the new guidance from the Department of Education does recommend that masks become optional during times when our region’s CALI score is in the green or yellow ranges and in the most recent report, our region has been identified as yellow.  Additionally, the Department of Education and County Superintendent have both recommended moving to a mask optional format for schools in consultation with the Department of Health. Finally, the results of our survey indicate that 70% of respondents favor moving towards an optional masking policy, while 30% favor mandatory masking. Students will have to wear masks if they were quarantined as a close contact or if they tested positive when they return on days 6-10 as per current guidelines.

Students who choose to continue to wear a mask at school will be welcomed to continue masking and the school will continue to supply masks to any student throughout the remainder of the school year.  Additionally, the school will not tolerate any negative comments either for or against masking from students or staff, and this will be addressed with students in our morning meeting.

As with everything COVID related, we know that this is fluid and if our region or state were to return to the orange or red levels, we would consider the masking mandate once again. I thank you for your attention to this information and please contact me if you have any questions.
